Lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea)
n our lingonberry products, we mainly use Finnish lingonberry. The raw material is hand picked in the clean northern nature, in Kainuu and in the provinces of Oulu and Lapland. Lingonberry matures late in August and the season continues until the end of September. The unique flavour of lingonberry is sharp and a little sour. Lingonberry is an excellent raw material for bakeries, dairies and for beverage industry, as well as for mill products, gelés, jams and different kinds of seasonings and marinades.
Lingonberry is a healthy berry and it is a valued material for natural products. Lingonberry contains a lot of flavonoids and lignals; these it has in multifold amount compared to other wild berries.
In addition to this, lingonberry also contains the short-chained proantocyans more than any other Finnish berry; thanks to this, lingoberry is seen to have similar protective properties against urinary tract infection as cranberry.
