Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
As the raw material for our bilberry products we only use wild bilberry. The bulk of the material is from Finland and it is picked in Kainuu, as well as in the provinces of Oulu and Lapland. The season for bilberries begins at the end of July and continues as long as until the end of September.
Bilberry has a strong and delicious flavour although the berry does not contain a large amount of sugar. Bilberry is a very healthy berry and its health effects are connected to the antioxidicing compounds and vitamins it contains. Beside crowberry, the bilberry includes the largest amount of antocyans creating colour. Compared to the cultivated bush bilberry, the wild bilberry has been proved to contain five times the amount of antocyans.
We produce many different products of bilberry: frozen berries, juices, purées, powders as well as dehydrated berries.
