Cloudberry is a marsh plant which has many names in Finnish. Cloudberries can be found in the open and wood-covered marshlands all over the country. It blooms in early summer. The leaves of the cloudberry are very sensitive to harsh growing conditions, such as heavy rains or night frost. In Finland, the white flowers of the cloudberry are in bloom in June and the golden berries ripen in July-August. A ripe berry is yellow, juicy, tasty and fragrant. Cloudberry is one of the most valued wild berries in Finland.
Cloudberry contains more fibers (soluble and insoluble) than the other Finnish berries. In addition to that, the vitamin A and C contents of the cloudberry are high; its vitamin A content is actually ten-fold to that of the other berries.
Cloudberry contains more vitamin E than any fruit, vegetables or corn. Dairy, bakery and beverage industries use and value cloudberry as one of their most precious raw-materials. Cloudberry is also used in the cosmetics industry to improve the wellbeing of the skin.
